WIP: SR-71 Blackbird ; Italeri 1/72. – Entre el Reto y la Nostalgia –

– Between Challenge and Nostalgia –
One summer in the 1980s, I built and painted this same model. At that time, I didn’t even know that repanelling existed. I painted it with black Humbrol spray paint, and the resulting texture was literally good enough to scratch your back with.
Unfortunately, I lost the model, but I still have some models from many years ago with their ‘things’.
This aircraft is fascinating, and I really like it. I’ve taken a couple of days off from other projects to try my hand at repanelling and rescue this model, which isn’t in such bad shape.
Yes, I know that not all the panels have been reproduced, nor do I intend to do so. I’m simply going to redo the ones that come with the kit. If anyone doesn’t like it, please refrain from commenting.
This model is going to be something else: a self-tribute and an exercise in painting black.

– Entre el Reto y la Nostalgia –
En un verano de los 80 construí y pinté este mismo modelo, en aquella época lo de repanelar ni sabía que existía, lo pinté con un spray de Humbrol negro, la textura resultante servía literalmente para arrascarse la espalda.
Desgraciadamente perdí el modelo, con sus «cosas» aún conservo algún modelo de hace muchos años.
Este aparato es fascinante y me gusta mucho, me he tomado un par de días de descanso de otros proyectos para probarme con los repanelados y rescatar esta maqueta que de formas no está tan mal.
Si, se que no están todos los paneles reproducidos, ni los pienso hacer, simplemente voy a rehacer los que trae el kit, si a alguien no le parece bien, por favor que se ahorre el comentario.
Este modelo va a ser otra cosa: Un auto-homenaje y un ejercicio de pintura del color negro.

FW-190; drawing with colored pencils

Primera versión realizada con lápices de colores en proceso, con los lápices de colores el truco es ir despacio y superponiendo capas y trazos hasta obtener las transiciones de color, tras dos sesiones de trabajo, ya empieza a asomar el dibujo.

W.I.P. Grumman FM-1 Wildcat, Tamiya 1/48. (2)

Interiors ready to glue and place in its final location, I have used Eduard’s basic photoetched parts for the detailing and his resin seat with the seat belts. It is painted with Tamiya for the airbrush and AK Acrylics 3Gen for the brush details, soon I will close the fuselage and prepare for the exterior painting.

Interiores listos para pegar y colocar en su emplazamiento definitivo, he utilizado el fotograbado básico de Eduard para el detallado y su asiento de resina con los cinturones de seguridad. Está pintado con Tamiya para el aerografo y Acrilicos 3Gen de AK para los detalles a pincel, en breve cierro el fuselaje y a preparar para la pintura exterior.

W.I.P. Grumman FM-1 Wildcat, Tamiya 1/48. (1)

This is what you see is assembled in two afternoons, not even 8 hours of work, it is true that it will be necessary to improve and sand things, especially when I fit wings and fuselage.
Sometimes I wonder if I really need more to enjoy this hobby, it is true that there are more recent Wildcats, better made and more detailed, but they also require more effort to assemble.
At the moment this one is ready to start with the few details that I will put inside the cockpit and paint.

Esto que veis está montado en dos tardes mal contadas, ni 8 horas de trabajo, cierto es que habrá que afinar y lijar cosas, sobre todo cuando encaje alas y fuselaje.
A veces me pregunto si realmente hace falta más para disfrutar de este hobby, cierto es que hay Wildcats más recientes, de mejor factura y más detallados, pero también exigen más esfuerzo de montaje.
De momento este esta listo para empezar con los pocos detalles que le pondré dentro de la cabina y pintar.

The first goal of the match was scored by me, the transparent parts of the COCKPIT of the venerable Tamiya’s MODEL came in one piece and I have been able to section it without damaging it, so I will go ahead with this project. Later I will tell you a “secret” about it.
This MODEL is very special for me, because when I was a kid I remember seeing it in the first TAMIYA（タミヤ） catalog that fell into my hands and it seemed to me something out of this world, how everything changes 😊.
And please refrain from rivet counters, panel shifters and other ashy people with the faults of this 1974 mold (which it will have), it’s an airplane I like and I plan to enjoy it. Best Regards to all. 😇

El primer gol del partido lo he metido yo, la cabina de la venerable maqueta de Tamiya venía en una sola pieza y he sido capaz de seccionarla sin estropearla, así que seguiré para adelante con este proyecto. Más adelante os contaré un «secreto» al respecto.
Esta maqueta es muy especial para mi, pues de crio recuerdo que la vi en el primer catálogo de TAMIYA（タミヤ）que cayó en mis manos y me parecia algo fuera de este mundo, como cambia todo.😊
Y por favor abstenerse cuenta-remaches, cambia-paneles y demás cenizos con los fallos de este molde (que los tendrá) de 1974, es un avión que me gusta y pienso disfrutarlo. Saludos para todos. 😇

Another little drawing to start Sunday, in this case of one of those ‘crazy’ experimental planes of the 60s: the X-24A.
This time I have coloured it with Van Gogh Neutral Tint and Carbon Black watercolours, and some touching up with Pablo white pencil from Caran D’ache on on 230 gr. paper.

Otro dibujillo para empezar el domingo, en este caso el de uno de esos»locos» aviones experimentales de los años 60: el X-24A.
En esta ocasión he coloreado con acuarelas Van Gogh Neutral Tint y Carbon Black, y algún retoque con lápiz blanco Pablo de Caran D’ache sobre papel de 230 gr.

The I-16 is a unique aircraft, an innovative and extreme design that performed beyond its capabilities. I find it a fascinating aircraft.
The plate is based on a vintage photo, it is coloured with Rembrandt’s watercolours, I show you also the previous line drawing.
I hope you like it.

El I-16 es un avión único, un diseño innovador y extremo que rindió por encima de sus posibilidades. Me parece un aparato fascinante.
La lámina está basada en una foto de época, está coloreada con acuarelas de Rembrandt, os muestro también el dibujo de líneas previo.

Drawing: F4U Corsair

Once the line drawing is done, one of the copies I have made, in A5, I have worked with coloured pencils from the Irojiten series by Tombow, on Montval paper by Canson, this is the paper I use for watercolours, maybe a finer grain one would have been better, it’s a matter of trying it out.
Without further pretensions, I hope you like it.

Una vez realizado el dibujo de líneas, una de las copias que he sacado, en A5, la he trabajado con lápices de colores de la serie Irojiten de Tombow, sobre papel Montval de Canson, este es el papel que uso para las acuarelas, quizás uno de grano más fino hubiera venido mejor, cuestión de probar.

Drawing: Bell X-1 (2)

Previo al coloreado definitivo en A4 he soltado mano con un bocetillo en A5 con acuarela sepia y y negro, simplemente abocetar iluminacion y trasladar algunos reflejos.
A parte he estado estudiando el color naranja y ya tengo una idea al menos aproximada de como voy a acometerlo.
